Varna. Bulgaria. Exhibition in Naval Art Gallery. 1998
Immediately after the opening of the gallery and after the announcement of the results of the Marina-98 biennale competition, adventures awaited us!
In September, the artists and I went to Varna by ferry to present the exhibition of the winners of Marina 1998 at the Navil Art Gallery, at the invitation of the owner of the gallery, Svetla Tukhchieva.
Thanks to our acquaintance with the Tukhchiev, we were able to organize a free trip to Varna for the winners of the Marina.
The sponsor of the Marina and this exhibition was Alexander Kurlyand, the company Ukr Ferry, it was he who helped us organize this event.
Odessa artists Sergey Driga, Olga Kotlyarova, Nikolay Prokopenko and Slava Podobed went to Bulgaria.
It was not the first time for all of them, except Drigi, to travel and present their work abroad. And I was responsible for everything that happened.
I remember that we had just arrived at the territory of the Ilyichevsk port, when the guys took out a bottle and began to drink it right on the street. I begged them to wait, but nothing came of it. It was very funny!
Having gone through all the necessary formalities, we boarded the ferry and soon went out to sea. Some problems came out at the exit, the customs is everywhere the customs. But this was all resolved. We were accommodated in a rest house, located quite far from Varna.
It was not possible for us to get to the city without transport.
But there were no problems – we were taken away and brought back at the right time for us. At that time of the formation of the country, Bulgaria struck us not from its best side. For me, who lived a long period of time in the Soviet Union, the image of Bulgaria was associated with fertility – grapes, peppers and roses in the first place. Arriving in Varna and hitting the market, I couldn’t find grapes, and only on one counter I saw peppers, but we couldn’t buy flowers for the gallery owner at the opening of the exhibition at all – what was offered was both prohibitively expensive and also simple absolutely unrepresentative.
To my great regret, Svetla was left without flowers! We were received very warmly and the exhibition had a great response. We also got to know Bulgarian artists better and visited the workshop of one of them, Ivan Georgiev. (To be continued…)
Сразу же после открытия галереи и после объявления результатов конкурса биеннале “Марина-98” нас ждали приключения!
В сентябре месяце художники и я, отправились в Варну на пароме, для презентации выставки победителей Марины 1998 в галерее Навил Арт, по приглашению хозяйки галере, Светлы Тухчиевой.
Благодаря знакомству с господами Тухчиевыми, мы смогли организовать бесплатную поездку в Варну для победителей Марины.
Спонсором Марины и этой выставки выступил Александр Курлянд компания Укр Ферри, именно он помог нам организовать это мероприятие.
В Болгарию поехали одесские художники Сергей Дрига, Ольга Котлярова, Николай Прокопенко и Слава Подобед.
Для них всех, кроме Дриги это было не впервые, путешествовать ипредставлять свои работы за рубежом. А на мне лежала ответственность за все происходящее.
Помню, мы только что прибыли на территорию Ильичевского порта, когда ребята достали бутылочку и стали прямо на улице ее распивать. Я очень просила их повременить, но ничего не вышло. Это было очень весело!
Пройдя все необходимые формальности, мы погрузились на паром и вскоре вышли в море. Некоторые проблемы вышли при выходе, таможня она везде таможня. Но и это все разрешилось. Нас поселили в доме отдыха, расположенном довольно далеко от Варны.
Самим добраться в город не имея транспорта для нас не представлялось возможным.
Но проблем не возникло-нас забирали и привозили обратно в нужное для нас время. В то время становления страны, Болгария нас поразила не с лучшей своей стороны. Для меня прожившей большой отрезок времени в Советском Союзе образ Болгарии ассоциировался с плодородием- виноградом, перцами и розами в первую очередь. Приехав в Варну и попав на рынок найти виноград не получилось, и только на одном прилавке я увидела перцы, а вот купить цветы для галеристки на открытие выставки мы и вовсе не смогли- то, что предлагалось, были и непомерно дорого и к тому же просто абсолютно непрезентабельно.
К моему огромному сожалению осталась Светла без цветов! Нас принимали очень тепло и выставка имела большой резонанс. А еще мы поближе познакомились с болгарскими художниками и побывали в мастерской одного из них Ивана Георгиева. (Продолжение следует…)
