Monkey Temple (Hanuman), Hampi, India.
The first temple we visited in Hampa was the temple of Hanuman, the monkey god. The temple is located on the Anjaey hill. The hill is said to be the birthplace of Hanuman.
The way to the top goes along the mountain stairs. This is a fairly large climb, and it is very difficult to overcome it. 570 steps if I’m not mistaken.
I decided I couldn’t handle it and stayed at the foot, knowing that I couldn’t do it. But I had a very pleasant time watching the sunset and enjoying the fellowship with the young Indians.
The temple is dedicated to the god Rami (and Hanuman). Ramayana – The story of Rama is described inside the temple in Hindi. Those who understand Hindi and are interested in the Ramayana listen to it during the day. The story is told by Pandit, an old man with a white beard. There are usually few people in the temple unless it is a special day for the temple. You can just go to the temple and sit near it, listen and leave when you feel tired. Story readings are ongoing. The door of the temple is always closed (so that uninvited and ubiquitous impudent monkeys do not enter, although this is the temple of their leader!). You need to follow the basic etiquette required for prayer if you are new to a Hindu temple. The priest can present you with holy water and a red powder, which the Indians put on their foreheads.

The view from the hill is amazing. The patches of paddy fields are like puzzles, while coconut plantations and the ruins of Hampi outline the horizon. Looking at the ruins from here, you understand why people chose this place as their capital. There are steep rocky mountains around, enveloping the powerful Tungabadra River. It was a natural and strategically important place for the capital.

Дивлячись звідси на руїни, розумієш, чому люди обрали це місце своєю столицею. Навколо круті скелясті гори, що огинають потужну річку Тунгабадра. Це було природне та стратегічно важливе місце для столиці.
