Mumbai’s Sassoon Dock Fishing Port is one of the oldest ports in Mumbai, and one of the few in the city

The dock was formerly owned by Albert Abdullah David Sassoon (1818-1896), son of David Sassoon, a Baghdadi Jew and leader of the Jewish community in Bombay. It was the first commercial dock in western India and it was its construction that helped establish the cotton trade. David Sassoon called on the Prince of Bombay to become chairman of the board to promote the construction of a major dock. The Sassoon factories, which produce silk and chintz in Bombay, also provide jobs for a large number of Bombay residents.
Many people have jobs here, and they work in total unsanitary conditions.
